Timeline of the Parminder Singh Shergill shooting

Lodi Police Chief Mark Helms

“My hope is it kind of sets the record straight as to what really happened. We’re not putting out any information that’s opinion-based or anything other than factual.”

Sacramento civil rights attorney Mark Merin

“I think it’s an attempt to influence public opinion in the police department’s favor. It raises more questions than answers.”

On Monday, the Lodi Police Department released an abundance of information related to the death of Parminder Singh Shergill, including audio of a 911 call and photos of the knife officers said Shergill was carrying before officers fired more than a dozen rounds, killing the Gulf War veteran on Jan. 25.

Shergill’s sister-in-law, Kuldeep Shergill, who called 911 at 9:06 a.m., told the dispatcher that Parminder Shergill was schizophrenic, off his medication and assaulting his mother inside their Lodi home on Elderica Way.
